Before I get into details of the project, I would like to extend a THANK YOU to RCUniverse.com from all the team members for allowing the use of their name and webspace to put this project together. Below are links to the RCUniverse.com home page and also to the forum thread related to this project.
RCU Builders come together to build Pitts! (Forum Thread)
The team members would also like to extend a THANK YOU to Jim LeRoy of Bulldog Airshows for his official endorsement of our charity project. Below is a link to BulldogAirshows.com home page.

This project began out of a forum post by one RCUniverse member thinking out loud. On 08/16/06 RCU member ckangaroo70 (Ray Moore) wrote the following post...
"Something I have been thinking about for some time, and I thought would be fun to do is to get about 20 different builders here on RCU Universe to build a Plane together, and then donate the finished Plane to RCU to auction for some charity. What I had in mind was for a group of builders to decide upon a Plane to build. The way it would work is each member would construct a certain piece of the Plane, and then each piece would be mailed to a very good builder that we would designate to put it together. Each participating member would be mailed a piece of a plan to build from. We could even split up the task of making the parts. For example, a couple guys could cut ribs, one or two guys who know how to make figerglass parts could be responsible for that. Someone could cut some balsa strips, etc etc. I think it would be an interesting and fun project, could raise a few bucks for an RCU charity of RCU's choice, and it would have the signature of all the builders who contributed to building it. Anybody interested in getting something like this going?"
...And things started rolling from there. It didnt take long for member volunteers to step up and offer to donate their time and talent to the task. After having 18 members sign up, we started voting on which aircraft we would model and narrowed that vote down to a 1/3 scale PT-17 Stearman and a 1/3 scale "Bulldog" Pitts. After a final vote, the choice was clear..."Bulldog" Pitts special won out with the majority of votes. Team member D Bronk (Dave Bronk) got in contact with Jim LeRoy of
Bulldog Airshows and informed him of our project. Mr. LeRoy graciously gave his endorsement on the project and will be helping out with scale documentation.
Each team member will be responsible for fabricating some portion of the aircraft. When the items to be built are finially settled on, you will be able to view them on the
Member List. It is our hope that we can secure enough sponsors to provide the required material for the project. Please take a moment and browse our
Sponsor List for a links directory to our sponsors. If you would like to sponsor with materials or make a monetary donation to help cover miscellaneous costs (shipping costs, ticket printing, etc.), please view the
Member List and click any of the available email addresses. Every sponsor will have their name posted to the
Sponsor List and a clickable link to their products if so desired.
The aircraft will be awarded by means of a raffle that will be drawn at the
2007 Weak Signals Expo (aka "Toledo"). Ticket price is yet to be determined and will be available soon. Please check back here for that information when it becomes available.
All profits from ticket sales will be donated to
RCUniverse.com for the sole purpose of being donated to a charity of RCUniverse choice. Please check back here for information on the selected charity when it becomes available.
